US Hospitals Unprepared To Deal With Ebola-Related Medical Waste

Wonderful. And the CDC had to re-import people infected with Ebola in Africa, who were then treated here and subsequently released out into the great, American unknown.

Some U.S. hospitals might be prepared to treat the Ebola virus, but are they prepared to dispose of Ebola-related waste? Probably not, which could threaten public safety, according to a report by Reuters.

Emory University Hospital in Atlanta treated two patients who became infected with the disease in West Africa, who generated up to 40 bags of medical waste a day, Reuters reported.

Initially, the hospital's waste management company refused to pick up exposed sheets and protective equipment, citing regulations that Ebola-related waste must be handled in special packaging by those with hazardous materials training, according to the article. Emory kept the waste on site in 32-gallon rubber, sealable bins, until the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) finally brokered a deal with the waste management company to pick up the waste.

The virus spreads through bodily fluids, which would be considered biohazards and require special handling and disposal that not many hospitals are prepared for, according to The Hill. That means hospitals must create a logistical disposal plan now.
However, the CDC's guidelines, which advise hospitals to place Ebola-infected items in leak-proof containers and discard them as they would other biohazards, are different from the Department of Transportation (DOT), which recommends the special packaging and personnel trained in hazardous materials, Reuters reported.

Gavin Macgregor-Skinner, an expert on public health preparedness at Pennsylvania State University, said the CDC and the DOT are working together to resolve the issue. The CDC guidelines are proven to prevent infection in the handling of waste from HIV, hepatitis, and tuberculosis patients, he told Reuters.

Containment is one of the major issues regarding the spread of the virus. The World Health Organization projects Ebola will infect 20,000 people in November,FierceHealthcare previously reported. The CDC warns it could infect up to 1.4 million by January if cases continue to increase exponentially and go underreported.

Crisis Over: Obama Appoints Ebola Czar

Just what America needs. Another CZAR. Will The One who is The One He's been waiting for all His Life make this newest Czar a permanent Cabinet Level Post?

A Real disease which never should have been deliberately Imported into America by the One's Administration to begin with.

Obama Appoints Ebola Czar…
Via PJM:
The Obama administration now has an Ebola czar to lead the State Department’s effort to reach out to foreign governments and direct a comprehensive strategy to handle the outbreak.
Ambassador Nancy Powell, former U.S. envoy to India, was awarded the Homeland Security Service to America Medal in 2006 for leading an effort to combat bird flu.
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the goal is to “ensure a speedy and truly global response to this crisis.”
“President Obama has declared the Ebola outbreak a national security priority. Speaking on September 16 at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, the President outlined the U.S. Government’s strategy to address the threat from the worsening Ebola epidemic in West Africa,” Psaki said in a statement.

Thank You PJM and Zip.

WebMD Has Received $14 Million To Promote ObamaCare

Well, So much for WebMD.
weaselzippers;
Awesome. Now when people go to check if they’re dying or not on WebMD, they’ll be hit with Obamacare propaganda for a long time to come.
WebMD has received nearly $14 million to promote Obamacare, as part of a government initiative designed to get Americans to turn to “official information” on the health care law.
The contract amount is much higher than was previously known, new documents revealed on Tuesday.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a “limited source justification” to extend WebMD’s contract through September 2015. The government has obligated a total of $13,932,914 for the “Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Health Care Priorities Educational Initiative” thus far.
The initiative gives funding to the health website WebMD to provide information to doctors and consumers about the “benefits” of the law.
“The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law on March 23, 2010,” the contract document states. “As a result, the Act requires that CMS educate consumers about the benefits now available through that legislation.”

Just Days After Camp Run-Amok (AKA Congress) Approves $500 Million To Arm "Moderate" Syrian Rebels, They Condemn Obama For Bombing ISIS

Anyone even a tiny bit surprised?
Via LA Times:
… One of the administration’s favored moderate rebel factions, Harakat Hazm, part of the Free Syrian Army alliance and a recipient of U.S. missiles and training, issued a statement Tuesday denouncing the “external intervention” — that is, the U.S.-led bombing campaign in Syria — as “an attack on the revolution.”
The group said its main goal was toppling Assad. It is demanding “unconditional arming” of the Free Syrian Army, yet its members also acknowledge fighting alongside Al Nusra Front, the official Al Qaeda force in Syria.
Still, the country’s motley bands of fighters labeled as moderates may well be the White House’s best hope for now. It has few other options.

Thank You Zip, PJM, and LA Times.
Obama 'Cares' so much about the horror of Gun Violence in America:
that he can't shut his Imperial Yap about imposing yet further Illegal Restrictions on American Citizens 2nd Amendment Rights, . . . and Then He and Congress send those same Citizens the Bill for $500 Million to buy guns for these Syrian Cretins who promptly give us a one finger salute.
Have you ever been to an arts and crafts fair where you got to watch someone practice their craft, such as a hand weaver, or a blacksmith, and truly marveled to see someone who is really, really good at their craft?
How many of these DC-ocrats have to call an electrician when they need a light bulb changed?
Um…what?
President Barack Obama favorably quoted and praised on Wednesday in his speech before the United Nations a controversial Muslim cleric whose organization has reportedly endorsed the terror group Hamas and supported a fatwa condoning the murder of U.S. soldiers in Iraq.
Obama in his remarks offered praise to controversial cleric Sheikh Abdallah Bin Bayyah and referred to him as a moderate Muslim leader who can help combat the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s (ISIL or ISIS) radical ideology.
However, Bin Bayyah himself has long been engulfed in controversy for many of his views, including the reported backing of a 2004 fatwa that advocated violent resistance against Americans fighting in Iraq.
This is not the first time that the Obama administration has extoled Bin Bayyah, who also has served as the vice president of a Muslim scholars group founded by a radical Muslim Brotherhood leader who has called “for the death of Jews and Americans,” according to Fox News and other reports.
Thank You Mr Stone and WFB.

And FLOTUS?

Michelle Obama Bashes America During U.N. Event: Women Are Suffering Here Because Of "Harmful Cultural Norms".

Glad to see Somebody besides the President and Congress 'Care' so much about All of the downtrodden and oppressed masses.

Following her husband’s lead.
Via Breitbart:
Wednesday, First Lady Michelle Obama said that American women are suffering under “harmful cultural norms” at a U.N. education event.
Mrs. Obama said, “Women here are still woefully underrepresented in our government and the senior ranks of corporations. We still struggle with violence against woman and harmful cultural norms that tell woman how they are expected to look and act.”

Thank You Zip and Breitbart.

Those are the Obama family dogs in a pic FLOTUS herself tweeted some months ago.

So as you can see, no one is better qualified to tell the U.N. how much America is making women suffer because of America's Harmful Cultural Norms, since Mooch has had such first hand, on the job experience of suffering herself.

Yup. American "Harmful Cultural Norms" unlike The Religion of Peace Cultural Norms.

That's a Somali woman being Stoned to Death, Mooch.

Her killers might even qualify, if the Political Optics of her husband's Historic Legacy call for it, as "Moderates".

Hospitals Combat Violence Against Workers

fiercehealthcare;

Communication vital to defusing sticky situations with angry patients

Angry patients and violence against healthcare workers plague hospitals across the country, as organizations try to defuse tension in a high-stakes environment.

Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota saw four security lockdowns in six months, with the latest incident on Sunday night involving someone outside of the hospital with a weapon, WCCO 4 news reported. Now the hospital, along with community partners, work to protect both patients and hospital staff.

Identifying triggers of patient violence can help hospital leaders find potential intervention targets, according to a study published in the Journal of Advanced Nursing.

Researchers found that some catalysts for patient violence against healthcare workers included the use of needles and restraints, patient discomfort, cognitive impairment, physical transfers  and patients who demand to leave. Hospitals can train staff to recognize patient violence indicators and educate them as to how to best mitigate the situation, the study found.

Violent patients and vulnerable hospital staff are a dangerous combination, one the federal Patients' Bill of Rights needs to address, Anne Skomorowsky, Ph.D., a psychiatrist at Columbia University and a Public Voices fellow with the OpEd Project, wrote in an opinion piece in today's Boston Globe.

"The human rights perspective acknowledges that healthcare workers have the same inherent rights to safety as do patients," Skomorowsky wrote. "The healthcare worker is encouraged to report, document, and demand response from the institution and the government to prevent violent and threatening behavior."

Communication could be the key to defusing angry, potentially violent patients. When the healthcare deviates from patients' expectations of error-free, streamlined care, providers can actually exacerbate the situation by failing to communicate properly, according to a Huffington Post blog post.

This communication failure can prompt extreme anger and even litigation, author Ruth Tarantine, DNP, R.N., the chair of online nursing graduate programs and nursing faculty at a private university, wrote.

Healthcare leaders and practitioners must practice good communication, validate patients feelings and hear their concerns and complaints, she said. "Nothing defuses patient anger better than an empathetic healthcare provider who is willing to acknowledge and discuss the shortcomings of healthcare, admitting that healthcare processes and providers need to improve," Tarantine wrote.
