ObamaCare And Eugenics
Is “positive selection” a part of PPACA’s cost control strategy?
The scariest words uttered during Jonathan Gruber’s recent appearance before the House Oversight Committee were “positive selection.” They were read aloud by Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, from a 1997 paper the professor co-authored concerning abortion. The opus in question made the Congressman uneasy because of the following passage: “By 1993 all cohorts under the age 19 were born under legalized abortion and we estimate steady state savings of $1.6 billion per year from positive selection.” Rep. Massie asked the professor what was meant by “positive selection.” This question was evidently not anticipated in Gruber’s pre-testimony coaching, so he became evasive.
Considering what it means, this is no surprise. “Positive selection” is no ordinary example of academic jargon. The term is frequently used by evolutionary biologists, who tell us it is responsible for the development of “traits that define our species—notably the enormous brain, advanced cognitive abilities, complex vocal organs, bipedalism and opposable thumbs.” And Gruber refers to mass abortions of unborn babies, whom he describes as “marginal children,” as an example of positive selection that includes the added benefit of saving the government money. Should we be worried that an architect of Obamacare seems to be an advocate of what sounds an awful lot like eugenics?
And, attempts by the Democrats to revise history notwithstanding, Gruber did play an important part in Obamacare’s design. As I pointed out in this space a few weeks ago, he is known to have been present at high-level White House meetings at which crucial decisions were made concerning controversial provisions of the law. Moreover, the Obama DOJ has frequently cited him in its court filings relating to King v. Burwell and other crucial cases relating to PPACA. Considering his views on the subject, it is virtually certain that Gruber was also involved in the decision to require insurance carriers to include abortion coverage in policies sold through Obamacare exchanges.

Although he admits it “sounds blatantly authoritarian” and “violates just about every core value we possess in a free society,” a noted transhumanist author has said a world government body should forcibly sterilize anyone “deemed unworthy” of parenthood by using implanted microchips.
Constitutional attorney and civil liberties expert John W. Whitehead, founder of The Rutherford Institute, warned LifeSiteNews.com earlier this year that political officials would long to use this seminal technology.
In an article for Wired.com today, philosopher Zoltan Istvan wrote that the notion first crossed his mind when he heard a blonde nurse say, “with 10,000 kids dying everyday around the world from starvation, you'd think we'd put birth control in the water.”
After careful thought, in an effort to “give hundreds of millions of future kids a better life, I cautiously endorse the idea of licensing parents,” Istvan wrote today.
The process, he said, “would be little different than getting a driver's license.” Parents must “pass a series of basic tests” in order to “get the green light to get pregnant and raise children.”
“Those applicants who are deemed unworthy” for a variety of reasons – he lists homelessness, criminal history, and poverty among his examples – “would not be allowed until they could demonstrate they were suitable parents.”
However, he questions how far governments would go to enforce its birth control mandate. “Would governments force abortion upon mothers if they were found to be pregnant without permission?” he asked, saying the idea seems “unimaginable in most societies around the world.”
Istvan writes that he finds “near-term hope” in a contraceptive technology funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a remote-controlled injectable microchip that could effectively sterilize someone for up to 16 years.
“The implanted microchip lasts for up to 16 years -- three times current implantable devices, including IUDs -- and can deliver hormones into the body via an on-off switch on your mobile phone,” he wrote. “It's not a huge jump to imagine governments seeing opportunity in using this.”
However, due to the national government's spotty record on fiscal and other issues, he believes its control should be outsourced to a world government. “Perhaps a nonprofit entity like the World Health Organization might be able to step in,” he wrote, adding WHO's participation would inspire “more confidence.”
The concept of a birth licenses, even those run by the United Nations, is not new. Istvan noted the support of ethics professor Hugh LaFollette and Paul Ehrlich, author of The Population Bomb.
The Ehrlichs co-authored the 1977 book Ecoscience with current Obama Science Czar John Holdren. They endorsed a “comprehensive planetary regime” to control fertility, adding that “compulsory population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing constitution if the population crisis became sufficiently severe to endanger the society.” President Obama recently said he relies on Holdren to formulate his science policy.
The concept of government-regimented reproduction was also supported by Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger some 80 years ago. Sanger wrote in a column for America Weekly in March 1934 that even then it may have “become necessary to establish a system of birth permits.”
Istvan believes new technology places their dream closer than ever to reality. Pre-clinical testing of the new microchip begins next year. A development team at the Massachusetts-based MicroCHIPS Inc. hopes to introduce the product by 2018, pending approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

OK, before you even start, Define Who 'We' is.
"(CNSNews.com) - The "new energy future" will require the federal government to encourage "the right kinds of behavior," Interior Secretary Sally Jewell told a clean energy summit in Nevada on Tuesday.
"When you are getting into a new energy future, you really benefit from having the support of states -- and the federal government encouraging the right kinds of behavior and encouraging those incentives (for solar panel installation), she said.
Jewell mentioned the "right" kind of behavior twice in her speech, without specifically saying what it means. But she did give some hints.

In the first reference, Jewell was discussing the various ways that REI reduced its carbon footprint when she chaired the company. She said REI's carbon-reduction efforts began as "random acts of kindness -- things like encouraging people, including employees, to ride bikes to work; using green energy where we could, recycling and those things...."
Jewell's second reference to the “right” kind of behavior came at the end of her speech:
"If we're going to address climate change, we need to pull together as leaders to make it happen -- leaders in business, leaders in utilities, leaders in states, leaders in private industry, leaders in government, and leaders as individuals. We need to wake up and look at the landscapes and admit what's happening around us. We need to ask ourselves, how can we be part of the solution? How can we provide incentives to reward and incent the right behavior? How can we hold each other accountable?"
Jewell admitted that REI's efforts to install solar panels at a number of stores was a costly venture at first.
"But we did go to states that gave us an incentive to do that," Jewell said. "California and Oregon come to mind, places that dominate in terms of where the onsite solar is, but also federal programs that made it affordable for us to go early on into onsite solar."
Over an eight-year period, REI saw a reduction in the cost and an increase in efficiency of solar panels. But to begin with, she said, the internal rate of return for REI's 11 solar-panel projects was only 1-and-a-half percent over ten years -- "not something you generally sign up for unless you are really committed to reducing your carbon footprint."
A main topic of Jewell's speech was expanding renewable energy on federal lands at the "landscape level." That means balancing conservation with development.
"Our nation's public lands are vast and varied," Jewell said. "We need to take a close look at these resources to determine where it makes sense to develop renewable energy -- and just as importantly, where it does not."

As part of President Obama's Climate Action Plan to reduce carbon pollution, the Interior Department is working to approve 20,000 megawatts of renewable energy production on public lands by 2020.
‘Wind turbines that detect birds’
In discussing the expansion of wind energy along the Atlantic coast, Jewell gave a nod to conservationists who are concerned about windmills killing birds. She said research may hold the answer:
"So we can't reach the president's energy goals on good intentions. You know that," she said. "We need to support research into innovative technologies."
