A new California assembly bill would require students to learn that Russian hacking helped get President Donald Trump elected.

Democratic California Assemblyman Marc Levine plans to introduce the “Pravda Act of 2017” within the next few weeks. Pravda is Russian for “truth.”

“Students need to understand how [President] Trump’s policies are colored by the way he rose to power,” Levin told The Hill Monday. “We have a duty to history to make it remember the Kremlin’s decision to hand pick a candidate.”

The bill would require the state Board of Education ensure that school curricula “educate California students about Russian interference in the 2016 Presidential Election.” But its reach may go beyond California, given that Californian textbooks are often used across the country due to the large student population within the state.

Levine is aware of this, and intends to use the bill to influence the country as a whole.

“Textbooks approved in our state are used throughout the country,” said Levin in a statement last Tuesday. “Through this legislation, we can make sure students in California and across the United States receive accurate information about the 2016 presidential election.”

GOP Bill Defunds Schools That Ban American Flag

Funny, but we can't seem to recall schools getting enough money to provide the services they're supposed to provide from any other entity with a Flag.

Dozens of House Republicans have introduced legislation that would prevent federal funds from being used to fund schools and colleges that ban the American flag.
The bill was introduced the same week that Hampshire College in Massachusetts decided to remove the American flag from the campus.

Initially, the college lowered the flag to protest President-elect Trump’s election victory, and student protesters burned the flag the next day. The flag was removed entirely as a form of further protest, and eventually raised again Dec. 2.

That started a petition asking asking that federal funds be removed for any college that takes down the flag. And on Friday, Rep. Mike Turner, R-Ohio, and 52 other House Republicans put forward legislation to accomplish that.

Teachers Union Says ObamaCare Hurts Women and Old People But Totally Supports It Anyway

The National Education Association, America’s largest teachers union, released a report on Thursday which is critical of an excise tax on high-cost health plans. The tax is required under the Affordable Care Act.

The steep excise tax is intended to burden people who enjoy generous health plans. However, the NEA’s report asserts, the excise tax actually tends to burden women, older people and people who live in places where the cost of living is already high.

Milliman, an actuarial and consulting firm, produced the report for the NEA. (You can view the full report here.)

The problem, the report suggests, is that the rules for assessing the excise tax erroneously equate high insurance premiums with lavish health insurance benefits. However, people often must pay higher premiums for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of the benefits they receive.

“We believe that it’s more accurate to call the excise tax on high-cost plans an ‘Age-Sex-Geography Tax,’” said NEA spokeswoman Kim Anderson in a statement obtained by The Daily Caller. “America’s tax policy should not be a game of chance for working families.”

The report “highlights a significant and damaging flaw in the excise tax,” Anderson said. “The excise tax on high-cost plans can randomly and unfairly cause hardship to American workers and their families. In fact, the excise tax will disproportionately hurt women and older workers.”

Despite the finding that an important Obamacare provision wrongly punishes women and old people with “arbitrary and negative consequences,” NEA leaders are unable to bring themselves to oppose Obamacare, President Barack Obama’s signature first-term law.

“We continue to support the Affordable Care Act because it already has strengthened health benefits for kids and families and provided an opportunity for millions of Americans to obtain quality, affordable care,” Anderson explained.

The teachers union has called on the Republican Congress to pass a law that will “avoid inflicting harm on American workers and their families” while keeping the rest of the Affordable Care Act intact.

Last month, the NEA was in the news because “Wisconsin Jobs Now” — a small, radical group to which the union gave $125,000″ — sponsored a rally at which two protesters unfurled a banner declaring “ALL COPS ARE BASTARDS.”(RELATED: OWN IT: ‘ALL COPS ARE BASTARDS’ SIGN Shows Up At NEA-Funded Protest)

“Let us not deny the regular people a voice in determining the future of our country,” urged NEA President Lily Eskelsen García, adding that she wants “to turn down the volume on corporate speech.”

In January 2014, prior to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address, the union representing over three million elementary and secondary teachers sent a 1,122-word letter to Obama outlining its policy wish list. As an outspoken critic of the federal academic standards scheme known as Common Core, I’d like to offer some friendly advice to opponents. Stop insulting. Stop digging. Stop projecting. Start listening.

Central planners in Washington have been caught off-guard by the grassroots revolt against the national standards/testing/curriculum juggernaut. Real input from the hoi polloi was never a part of the grand implementation process. So when parents and educators in dozens of states started challenging the privacy intrusions posed by and the constitutionality, cost, quality and validity of Common Core, its architects went on the attack.

And now, the education control freaks are freaking out.

Former GOP Florida Gov. Jeb Bush accused moms and dads who’ve vigilantly fought dumbed-down curricula firsthand of foisting “mediocrity” on their own kids.

Bush, Mike Huckabee, Chamber of Commerce types and Gates Foundation promoters routinely have insulted Glenn Beck and his listeners as conspiracy-mongers for raising red flags about Common Core’s data-mining agenda.

A Fordham Institute “expert” arrogantly suggested that actively involved parents like me were somehow confused about which materials have been “aligned” to Common Core, even though we’re the ones sitting down with our kids to help with incomprehensible homework and error-riddled texts every night in our own homes.

Heavy-handed school-board members and state educrats are taking cues from these elitist leaders. When they’re not mocking dissenters, they’re stifling them. Maryland parent Robert Small was threatened with arrest and falsely accused of assaulting a police officer because he dared to challenge a Common Core Kabuki forum.

In North Carolina, a parent writes that her principal refused to meet with a group of moms and dads concerned with dumbed-down Common Core math lessons. Moreover, the parent told the Truth About Education blog, the principal issued an effective gag order when she “outright told me to stop communicating with other parents about the Common Core because I was generating ‘unrest.’”

In Colorado, parent Natalie Adams was slapped with a no-trespass order by Jefferson County officials last week after challenging her district’s new boondoggle expenditures on Common Core-tied technology marketed by inBloom (a nonprofit school data-sharing conglomerate funded by the Gates and Carnegie Foundations, with architecture built by Wireless/Amplify, a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation).

In a classic case of psychological projection, New York Education Commissioner John King sneered at parents and teachers who attended his Common Core dog-and-pony show as “special interests.” After droning on uninterrupted for an hour and a half, King finally allowed two-minute statements from the audience. Parents balked at their kids being used as “guinea pigs” for untested teaching methods; educators challenged Common Core’s assessment-obsessed, one-size-fits-all approach. King petulantly cut off testimony only 20 minutes into the feedback session to filibuster and grandstand — and then proceeded to cancel future forums.

King dug his hole further by accusing parents of being “manipulated.” But Leonie Haimson, a New York City public school parent, pointed out: “So far six out of nine states have pulled out of inBloom or put their plans on hold because of protests from privacy experts and parents in Louisiana, Georgia, North Carolina, Kentucky, Delaware and Massachusetts.”

“Commissioner King’s claim is not only insulting to parents; it reveals how out of touch he is,” Haimson wrote this week in an assessment that sums up the problem with countless Common Core mouthpieces. “He seems unable to comprehend how parents’ desire to protect their children’s privacy is rational and to have the right to decide with whom their children’s most sensitive information, including their names, addresses, test scores, disabilities and disciplinary records, is being shared is completely justified.”

In my home state of Colorado, dissent from both conservative and liberal parents forced Jefferson County to allow individual “opt-outs” from the inBloom data-mining machine. The Gates Foundation responded by pouring $5 million into the district for “innovative professional development systems to create personalized learning systems for teachers.” How do you spell special interest payoff?

Not only do these education emperors have no clothes. They have tissue-paper thin skin. Their arrogant, contemptuous and vengeful treatment of dissenting parents and teachers gets a world-class “F.” Listen up:

We parents of school-age children are all Robert Smalls and Natalie Adamses and Leonie Haimsons. We, not the Obamas or the Bushes or the Gateses or educrats in Washington, are our children’s primary educational providers. Control over our children begins and ends with us.

It is not easy to stand up and challenge sovereignty-undermining, curriculum-usurping, privacy-sabotaging education orthodoxy, especially when it is plied with a toxic alliance of both big-government and big-business interests.

But if we don’t do it, who will?

Ritzy Hamilton College in upstate New York is bringing back the disgraceful legal doctrine of separate but equal for its minority students.

The leftist hothouse has announced an event entitled “Real Talk: A Dialogue about Internalized Racism” that is “open to people of color only.”

The brochure explaining the event states:

“Conversations about race in the U.S. mostly focus on race relations between white communities and people of color. However, people of color are also prone top [sic] internalize racist messages about their own community, and about other races/ethnicities/people of color. This conversation allows people of color to come together and examine how we may have accepted racist attitudes toward other racial groups and our own racial/ethnic communities, and move towards healing and mutual respect. In order to create a safe space, this program is open to people of color only. A similar conversation for white students, faculty and staff is planned for the spring semester.”

The brochure also notes that dinner will be provided. “Please contact Amit Taneja for more information (ataneja@hamilton.edu).”

The discussion is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 4:15 p.m. at the school’s Bristol Center (named for the co-founder of global biopharmaceutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb).

There will also be a joint session involving both “people of color” and white people at some future time, notes Legal Insurrection, the website that broke the story.

(CNSNews.com) - White House Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest said at the White House briefing on Tuesday that President Barack Obama believes America needs “to fundamentally rethink and reshape” its higher education system and the he will be going on a bus tour on Thursday and Friday to make some proposals Earnest said “are not going to be popular with everybody.”

After noting that average college tuition costs have risen dramatically in recent decades, Earnest said: “So what the President believes that we need to do is we need to fundamentally rethink and reshape the college--the higher education system, and we need to find a way to build on innovation.

“So the president on this bus tour will lay out some fundamental reforms that would bring real change to the way that we pay for college education in this country,” said Earnest.

“Now, the proposals that the president is going to lay out are not going to be popular with everybody, but they are going to be in the best interest of middle-class families,” he said. “And the president is looking forward to having that discussion over the course of Thursday and Friday in addition riding on a bus.”

In 2010, when Congress passed Obamacare, language buried in the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act, one of the two bills comprising the health-care reform plan, terminated the federal government’s program that guaranteed student loans made by private lenders, leaving just the Federal Direct Student Loan (DL) program.

"Under the DL program, the federal government essentially serves as the banker--it provides the loans to students and their families using federal capital (i.e., funds from the U.S. Treasury), and it owns the loans,” the Congressional Research Service later explained.

At the end of March 2010, the month Obama signed Obamacare and gave the Treasury a monopoly over federally guaranteed student loans, the outstanding balance on federal direct student loans was $169.526 billion, according to the Monthly Treasury Statement for that month. At the end of July 2013, the outstanding balance was $618.508 billion.

Since Obama signed the Obamacare law, the outstanding balance on direct student loans—money students and former students owe to the taxpayers—has increased by 365 percent.

Apparently, under the new Common-Core standards, correct answers don’t really matter. At least that’s according to a “curriculum coordinator” in Chicago named Amanda August. “Even if [a student] said, ’3 x 4 was 11,’ if they were able to explain their reasoning and explain how they came up with their answer really in, umm, words and oral explanation, and they showed it in the picture but they just got the final number wrong, we’re really more focused on the how,” said the common core supporter and typical liberal, Amanda. Off course this reasoning explains quite a bit regarding our nation’s 16 trillion dollar debt, and Nancy Pelosi’s assertion that Obamacare was a “deficit reducer.” When you consider that our finest economic leaders in the Federal Reserve, and the White House, thinkspending more money will result in fewer deficits, teaching that 3 x 4 = 11 (if you explain it well) isn’t really much of a stretch.

The left has long sought to bolster self-esteem by downplaying wrong answers in education. Everyone gets a ribbon; a truly disastrous lesson to teach when not everyone is capable of getting a job. And while the how is important in any lesson plan, in the end, the answer should still be correct. Amanda’s students are going to be in for a world of surprise when their first employer decides that doing the job correctly is more important than demonstrating “with words” an employee’s fundamental failure to grasp the concept of their task.

To the credit of the presumably leftists audience, someone asked if teachers will still be correcting students on math tests. The simple fact that someone had to ask the question should demonstrate the atrocious nature of American education reform. The question “are we still going to correct wrong answers” would seem incomprehensible in a system of honest instruction. Amanda, however, stumbles through a very entertaining non-answer:

“We want our students to compute correctly but the emphasis is really moving more towards the explanation, and the how, and the why, and ‘can I really talk through the procedures that I went through to get this answer; and not just knowing that it’s 12, but why is it 12? How do I know that?”

Well. . . Amanda, if they answered “11”, my guess is they won’t be able to answer “how do I know that” to a satisfactory degree. Well, 3 + 4 = 7, and both 3 and 7 are prime numbers. This leaves only 4 left, so we add it to our answer of 7 which is, of course, 11. Another prime number. . . How’d I do? Do I pass? What kind of world do we live in when math becomes a philosophical essay, and not a system of numbers, arithmetic, and simple truths? Well, it’s the same type of world that gives ribbons out to “honorary mentions” and lets every child star in the Christmas “winter” musical.

And this is at the center of Common-Core. At its heart is not an intent to better our failing school system (after all, you don’t do that by praising kids who get basic multiplication wrong) but to instil an altruistic sense of self-worth and liberal flexibility. To the American left, school should be an instrument to instruct children that they can be anything they want, and that the most important thing is life is that you get an “A” for effort.

Of course, I wanted to be an astronaut. . . And it doesn’t matter how hard you try, if you can’t answer the multiplication problem “3 x 4”, you’re not very likely to move into the highly competitive world of extraterrestrial exploration (although you could run for congress as a Democrat).

Amanda’s purported concentration on making sure children understand what they are taught certainly has its place in the classroom. . . Right behind getting the right answer. But don’t worry: People like Amanda will soon be writing up your child’s lesson plans.
