China Accuses Canada of Being 'US Colony' As Trade Sparks Fly

Fair Trade. Not Free Trade. If it's Fair (mutually beneficial) it's a Green Light. If it's Free (giving away the store in a One Country barrage of Govt restrictions Against the Other Country) then it's Not Trade. It's Fraud, which is another way of saying Theft.

When it comes to swapping insults, China’s state-owned media is in a league of its own. With a heavy helping of bile, the world’s second-largest economy ratcheted up the rhetoric with the United States in a looming trade war by branding neighbor Canada a “US colony.”

In a 477-word media tirade, China picked apart remarks made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday when he announced plans to bring in new regulations to crack down on countries dumping cheap steel and aluminum in foreign markets.

“Canada is a trading nation, and we will not allow North American industries to be hurt or threatened by unfair trade practices, like the diversion of steel and aluminum,” Trudeau said in a statement, without directly naming China.

“Our businesses and workers rely on our integrated industries, and we will take strong action to defend and protect our most important trade relationships. Canada will not be used as a backdoor into other North American markets. Our people have worked hard to be competitive in this global economy, and they deserve a level playing field,” he added.

Family of Alleged Port Authority Terrorist 'Outraged' Over Police Behavior

dailycaller
Joe Simonson Media Reporter
8:25 PM 12/11/2017

The family of Akayed Ullah, the suspect behind Monday morning’s failed suicide bombing at the New York City Port Authority Bus Terminal, expressed “outrage” by the actions of law enforcement.

“We are heartbroken by the violence that was targeted at our city today, and by the allegations being made against a member of our family,” Albert Fox Cahn, the legal director for CAIR New York, stated on behalf of the Ullah family, WABC reported Monday.

“But we are also outraged by the behavior of law enforcement officials who have held children as small as four years old out in the cold and who held a teenager out of high school classes to interrogate him without a lawyer, without his parents,” the family said. “These are not the sorts of actions that we expect from our justice system, and we have every confidence that our justice system will find the truth behind this attack and that we will, in the end, be able to learn what occurred today.”

Ullah, 27, was severely injured after he allegedly detonated a bomb attached to himself in the underground corridor between Times Square and the Port Authority. There are no reports that law enforcement acted improperly in the aftermath of the terrorist attack and thanks to medical personnel, he is expected to survive.

Four other bystanders received minor injuries from the explosion.

Ullah reportedly told investigators that he chose the location because of the Christmas-themed posters that hang on the walls near the Times Square subway station.

An immigrant from Bangladesh, Ullah entered the United States in 2011 through extended family chain migration. Once in the country, Ullah worked as an electrician and reportedly became radicalized through Islamic State propaganda.

EUGENICS WATCH: Canada May Extend 'Right To Die' To Mentally Ill: A Terrible Idea Based On A Terrible Lie

It was unmitigated Evil in NAZI Germany.

Psychiatrists: The Men Behind Hitler, (9 part series)

Reviving it in Canada doesn't clean the NAZI extermination camps off of it. This, is Government Compassion/Socialism/Central Planning/The Greater Good.

CNSNews

By Eric Metaxas | May 10, 2017 | 1:58 PM EDT

We could have predicted this: Canada may extend the “right to die” to the mentally ill. It’s an evil idea.

In 2015, Canada legalized physician-assisted suicide. We have talked about the Canadian decision several times on BreakPoint. In March, in fact, we talked about how many Canadian doctors who had originally indicated a willingness to be the “physician” in “physician-assisted suicide” were having second thoughts.

Now, there’s a campaign to extend what Canada calls “physician assistance in dying” beyond the terminally ill to include the mentally ill. This comes as no surprise to those who have followed the trajectory of Belgian and Dutch laws, which have served as a model for the rest of the world.

Not only is this a terrible idea, it’s also what’s to be expected if, as Wesley J. Smith told Fox News, “society broadly accepts the agenda of killing as an acceptable end to human suffering … We eliminate suffering by eliminating the sufferers.”

But even if you don’t believe in the sanctity and dignity of human life, and even if you could rationalize physician-assisted suicide for the terminally ill, extending this “right” to the mentally-ill is an idea that should be resisted at all costs.

The reason why lies in how “mentally ill” is defined. The expression “mental illness” is a broad category that includes different psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and clinical depression, to name but a few.

While these disorders are different in their symptoms and how they are treated, they share one vital characteristic: a disconnect between what the person’s mind says is true about, well, almost everything, and what is actually true. As a friend of mine has put it, “our minds can be terrible liars.”

There’s a reason that arguably the greatest book ever written about living with mood disorders was entitled “An Unquiet Mind.” People who live with mental illness, especially bi-polar disorder, depression—as I do—and anxiety disorder, spend a lifetime reminding themselves that just because they think something—a “something” that nearly always portends evil, suffering, and despair—does not make it true.

And that’s just the medical side. As 1 Peter tell us, “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” The “devouring” takes various forms, one of which is to make us miserable. How? By lying to us about, well, everything.

The Adversary’s goal is to induce despair, which Thomas Aquinas defined as “ceasing to hope for a share of God’s goodness,” and make us call God a liar when He tells us in Psalm 34, “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the stalwart one who takes refuge in him.”

The distortions caused by mental illness, coupled with what Christians know about our Adversary, render the notion of consent in the Canadian proposal absurd. When you hear, “please let me die,” you can never be certain whose words you’re hearing: the person’s, the illness’s, or the Adversary’s.

None of this is to deny that mental illness can be painful, even excruciating. Even for the devout Christian, it can seem like a dark wood from which there is no escape.

But in virtually every instance, that, too, is a lie. The late James Cavanaugh, a Jesuit priest, once wrote that “If we could count the fears, both small or large, that once hounded us, and then thank God for each dreaded outcome never met, we would reach no end to gratitude.”

The Canadian proposal, if adopted, ensures that vulnerable people will never know how wrong they could be and, thus, experience the gratitude Cavanaugh wrote about.

All of which makes assisted suicide for the mentally ill a terrible idea based on a terrible lie.

Thank You Mr Metaxas and CNS.

Eugenics Watch: Experts Debate Expansion Of Assisted Dying Legislation To Psychiatric Patients

madinamerica
In The News July 6, 2016

Recently, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that adults with a “grievous and irremediable” condition have a right to medically assisted suicide. In an effort to legislate this right, a parliamentary committee was formed that suggested extending this definition to nonterminal medical conditions, including psychiatric disorders. In response, the Canadian Medical Association Journal printed an editorial by bioethics and public health experts Scott Kim and Tudo Lemmens. Kim and Lemmens argue that extending assisted dying laws to include patients diagnosed with psychiatric disorders “will put many vulnerable and stigmatized people at risk.

The Canadian government recently passed bill C-14, which did not extend the assisted dying measures to psychiatric conditions, but the editorial warns that this issue may not yet be settled, as the government has indicated that it is still studying the issue.

“Arguments for including mental illness as an eligible condition for assisted dying almost always focus on severe depression. The assumption is that doctors can accurately determine medical futility and decisional capacity, with the implication that no ineligible person would receive assisted death,” Kim and Lemmens write. “However, evidence suggests this focus is too narrow and fails to consider real threats to patients with mental illness.”

Previous studies out of Belgium, and the Netherlands reveal that patients who would meet the “irremediable” standard for assisted dying with severe depression might actually be able to achieve remission if given access to high-quality treatment.

“The assumption that only patients with true irremediable depressive disorders would have access to assisted dying — after careful assessment of their decision-making capacity based on rigorous thresholds — is not supported by evidence,” they write.

Another concern is that some patients who request assisted dying while in an extreme state might not meet the criteria for mental capacity necessary to make such a final decision. While “psychiatric diagnoses should not be equated with incapacity,” the authors point out that past research has shown that psychiatrists report difficulty evaluating decision-making capacity.

“We believe there is a serious gap between the idealized basis upon which assisted dying for patients with psychiatric conditions is advocated and the reality of its practice, as reflected in evidence from Belgium and the Netherlands.” The conclude. “A policy for access to assisted dying by nonterminally ill patients with psychiatric conditions will put many vulnerable and stigmatized people at risk.”

Corrupt Pharma Execs Could Soon Face Jail In Canada

June 17, 2014

Pharmaceutical industry executives who mislead the public could soon face fines of up to $5 million or two years in jail in Canada. According to a Canadian government press release, a bill that dramatically strengthens the government’s powers to regulate prescription drugs has passed through the House of Commons and is going to the Senate. The bill has been spearheaded by Member of Parliament Terence Young, who told the Commons his goal is to stop “the aggressive over-marketing of drugs, the misleading sales pitches, and the covering up of harms that victimize patients.” Young wrote the book Death by Prescription about his daughter’s death from the drug Prepulsid, which she was given to treat a mild eating disorder.
“The facts of this tragedy shock every lay-person who hears them,” Young said in his speech to the House of Commons about his daughter’s death. “Yet I was to quickly discover the insiders: doctors, researchers, and people at Big Pharma were never shocked. They knew all along that potentially life threatening drugs were being pushed on patients with non-life threatening conditions, as the drug business had become all about Wall St. And they were all benefiting financially, big time.”
“Vanessa’s Law” gives the government “the power to recall unsafe drugs, impose stiff financial penalties, and require mandatory adverse reaction reporting by healthcare facilities,” says the government press release. It will also “enhance transparency concerning Health Canada’s regulatory decisions, information regarding clinical trials, and the scope of confidential business information and disclosure.”

Adult Antidepressants Suspected In Suicides of Canadian Kids

The Star has
Adult Antidepressants Suspected In Suicides of Canadian Kids
Jesse McLean, David Bruser
Staff Reporters

Powerful antidepressant and antipsychotic drugs approved only for use in adults are suspected of harming — in some cases killing — Canadian children.

Though Health Canada and the drug makers acknowledge the drugs are not approved for use in anyone under 18, doctors — often general practitioners with little psychiatric training — are prescribing these medications with little oversight.
Health Canada told the Star it has no jurisdiction to deal with the problem.
The regulator concedes the drugs may hurt kids but said it is up to drug companies to communicate the risks and doctors to safely prescribe the medications.
A Star investigation has found nearly 400 cases of children and teens suffering serious, sometimes fatal side effects suspected to have been caused by these drugs since 2002.
A 9-year-old boy’s breath shortened, stomach twisted and balance faltered before he died while on three different antipsychotics.
A 15-year-old boy experienced an irregular heartbeat and convulsed before killing himself while on antipsychotic Seroquel.
A 15-year-old girl on Prozac took her life in 2011.
Twenty-eight cases resulted in death, including the suicide of a 9-year-old boy three weeks after he started taking Zoloft, an antidepressant, in 2006. Convulsions and suicide attempts were among the most frequently reported suspected side effects.

GSK Loses Class-Action Ruling On Paxil In Canada

Fierce Pharma has;
GSK Loses Class-Action Ruling On Paxil In Canada

Judge rules cases over ties to birth defects can be tried together

GlaxoSmithKline ($GSK) has shed much of the litigation tied to the health effects on newborns whose mothers took Paxil during pregnancy, but not all. Now a judge in Canada has ruled that a case there can become a class action, opening up the possibility for ugly litigation there.

The lawsuit that initiated the ruling was brought by a British Columbia woman whose daughter was born with a hole in her heart, The Globe and Mail reports. She started taking the drug in 2002 and continued it through her pregnancy in 2005.

GlaxoSmithKline in September 2004 warned of the potential for respiratory complications in newborns whose mothers used Paxil during the third trimester of pregnancy. Lawyers allege that the drug could cause birth defects and that GlaxoSmithKline didn't do enough to warn doctors about the risks.

GlaxoSmithKline on Thursday responded to the ruling saying that the company had acted responsibly in testing, marketing and keeping consumers aware of potential dangers, The Canadian Press reports. Still the company in 2009 lost a jury verdict on this issue and the next year paid more than $1 billion to settle 800 similar suits in the U.S.

It is also not the only problem the company has faced with Paxil. Part of its massive $3 billion settlement with U.S. authorities this summer was tied to allegations that it had touted Paxil for off-label use in children and adolescents, despite data that failed to show that it was effective for kids.

MF Alert: Canadian 9-year-old forcibly given psychiatric drugs, over family's wishes

Canadian authorities are allegedly giving powerful psychiatric drugs to a nine-year-old girl diagnosed autistic, over the united and expressed wishes of the family, according to her father. MindFreedom issued this alert about how you can help.

Ayn Van Dyk and her father Derek Hoare: Derek says Ayn is being forcibly drugged over the family's wishes.

MindFreedom International Alert - 14 July 2011 [updated 15 July]

9 Year Old Taken From Home, Forced Hospitalized and Forced Drugged in BC, Canada

ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia, Canada. -- Ayn Van Dyk, an autistic 9 year old girl was removed from her family, forced hospitalized and forced drugged after a wandering episode, according to her father Derek Hoare.

The family says the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development took the child on the grounds that the father is overwhelmed, as he is a single father of three children, two of them diagnosed with severe autism. No suspicion of abuse has been alleged.

According to her records, Ayn was placed in a hospital and was medicated with two neuroleptic (antipsychotic) psychiatric drugs: She is receiving 75mg of Chlorpromazine (also known as Thorazine or Largactil) up to twice daily In addition, she is being administered Risperdal (Risperidone).

Seroquel was added to her list of potential meds. And a "sleeping aid."

According to witnesses, Ayn carries all day long a picture of her and her dad. After all the distress and drugging she is wetting her bed.

Her father says Ayn had never been given a psychiatric drug before this experience.

Ayn's Story: Bubbly Little Girl

Her family describes Ayn Van Dyk as a bubbly little girl. She likes photography and baking. She loves pink and crafts. Ayn goes to school and her favorite subject is art, though she loves to write stories as well.

In 2003 she was diagnosed with autism, her family chose not to medicate her, reports her father. On June 16, Ayn had been playing in the backyard of her family's home. Despite a a six-foot fence, she went missing. After frantically looking for her, without success, her father called 911 and a police search commenced. Ayn was found two hours later playing in a neighbor's backyard. Four days later, on June 20, Ayn Van Dyk was taken from her school and into custody by the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development, against the wishes of her family. Ayn was placed in a "specialized hospital" for evaluation, as she was deemed unsuitable for foster care at the time.

On June 28, 2011, despite objections by the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Ayn was released from the hospital and placed in a foster home, due to the hospital considering that 'hospitalization was no longer appropriate'.

Discharge documents report that Ayn was medicated receiving 75mg of chlorpromazine up to twice daily.

The hospital documents also state that, "We saw no bruises or evidence of physical abuse, and her body status (weight, height, vital signs) showed no evidence of neglect." The Ministry apparently doesn't agree with the discharge and is now seeking a longer term hospital stay of a minimum of 6 weeks and is working toward getting Ayn accepted into the Children's Hospital resident patient program.
