New Jersey School Suspends Student For Twirling Pencil In "Gun Motion" After Classmate Says He Felt Threatened By It . . .

More “zero tolerance” madness.
VERNON — A seventh-grade student at Glen Meadow Middle School was suspended last week. The student says he twirling a pencil in class, while the school says it may have been more, News 12 reported.
Ethan Chaplin told News 12 that while he was twirling a pencil with a pen cap on in math class, a student who bullied him earlier in the day yelled, “He’s making gun motions, send him to juvie.”
Vernon Schools Superintendent Charles Maranzano told News 12 that school policy and the law requires him to investigate when anyone in a school feels uncomfortable or threatened by another student.
Chaplin’s father, Michael Chaplin, recorded a conversation between himself, the school’s principal and guidance counselor earlier in the week, and posted it on Youtube. In the video’s description, Michael Chaplin wrote that his son was to be evaluated and see a therapist before he could return to school.
“I feel my son’s right to an education is now being denied because of the malicious actions of another student,” Michael Chaplin wrote on Youtube.
