Former Obama Medicare Chief (Berwick) Says Socialized Health Care Is "Next Step"

Donald Berwick, who ran CMS in 2010 and 2011 for President Barack Obama, has built single payer health care into his platform as a candidate for Massachusetts governor. In a campaign email yesterday, Berwick said the ACA “made historic progress” but that the “next step” would be adopting a single payer system in the Bay State. “I say that it’s a crucial step — that we must control rapidly increasing health care costs in order to fund essential programs and services … Massachusetts can once again take the lead on the pathway to better, simpler, more accountable health care for everyone.” Berwick invites supporters to sign a petition for single payer on his campaign website.
