Well, the war between the FBI and the Democrats could be kicked up a notch should the Department of Justice decide to entertain their request…to investigate the bureau. It all stemmed from former New York Mayor’s Rudy Giuliani’s admission that he knew about the FBI decision to review the new Clinton-related emails from top Hillary aide Huma Abedin.
FBI Director James Comey made the announcement last Friday that the bureau will be reviewing some 650,000 emails from Ms. Abedin. They were discovered on the laptop of her estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, who is under a separate investigation for illicit online interactions with an underage girl. Abedin and Weiner shared the device, but the separate investigations meant that the FBI needed to wait to get a warrant to review the emails, which was obtained last Sunday. Last night, it was revealed these emails were ones that haven’t been seen by FBI agents investigating Clinton over her private server. The fallout caused Democrats to froth at the mouth in a hypocritical rage (they loved Comey last summer), with some insinuating that he’s on the side of Putin; an outrageous smear.
Now, because of Rudy Giuliani’s less than subtle antics that he knew something in advance, some Democrats want the Justice Department to investigate the FBI for leaks. Giuliani has said that he didn’t receive these updates from active FBI agents and he didn’t share his insider information about Comey’s letter to Congress stating the bureau’s intention to review Abedin’s emails with anyone else (via Daily Beast):
“I did nothing to get it out, and I had no role in it,” he [Giuliani] said. But he continued, “Did I hear about it? You’re darn right I heard about it, and I can’t even repeat the language that I heard from the former FBI agents.”Reps. Elijah Cummings and John Conyers, respectively the top Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the Judiciary Committee, wrote to the Justice Department inspector general on Friday afternoon asking him to investigate the source of the information to Giuliani.Calling it “absolutely unacceptable” for the FBI to disclose information about a candidate so close to an election, the lawmakers said, “Leaking this information to former FBI officials as a conduit to the Trump campaign is equally intolerable.”[…]“These unauthorized and inaccurate leaks from within the FBI, particularly so close to a presidential election, are unprecedented,” Cummings and Conyers wrote. “For this reason, we are calling on your office to conduct a thorough investigation to identify the sources of these and other leaks from the FBI and to recommend appropriate action.”
The publication also noted that Cummings and Conyers pointed to Fox News’ Bret Baier’s claim that the FBI is aggressively pursuing the Clinton Foundation in their investigation whether quid pro quo dealings occurred, and that an indictment was likely. Baier later retracted that claim today, calling it a mistake. Still, the war between the FBI, Democrats, and the DOJ is getting ugly, which could get worse should Clinton win the presidency. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said that Comey might not be in the right job, and that he could be a casualty of the 2016 election.
Please read Ed's post here over at Hot Air, where he says that the allegation that Giuliani's remarks point to a political conspiracy is quite nonsensical.
Thank You Mr Vespa and Townhall.
