PhRMA Is The Most Effective Lobbying Group In Washington DC?Posted Thu, 07/25/2013 - 6:52am by Ed Silverman
Drugmakers are apparently getting their money’s worth from the dues they pay to PhRMA, the industry trade group. A new survey of 456 policymakers in Washington, DC, ranks the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America as the best in four out of 15 important categories, suggesting the trade group is arguably the most effective in the nation’s capital.
So which categories? PhRMA was voted the best at lobbying, multilateral impact, local impact and membership mobilization. The only other trade associations to capture more than one top slot were the US Travel Association, with three number one rankings, and the US Chamber of Commerce, which earned the highest praise for two other categories - coalition building and events.
The results should cheer drugmakers, of course, because the findings indicate that PhRMA is earning its keep when it comes to several key functions, especially in a global economy. The group has, for instance, been very aggressive in reaching out to the Obama administration and the House and Senate to influence the outcome of international trade talks.
