Alison Hymes describes herself as a "Token" Member of the Commitment Taskforce of the Chief Justice's Commission on Mental Health Law Reform, for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Virginia Citizens With Psychiatric Labels Under Siege
by Alison Hymes
Although those who live outside of Virginia could easily assume that the assault on the civil rights of people with psychiatric labels in Virginia started with the tragedy at Virginia Tech., that is not the case.
The assault on our rights started in fact with the creation of a Commission on Mental Health Law "Reform" by our state's Supreme Court Chief Justice in the Fall of 2006. This Commission has only two individuals who identify as mental health consumers or psychiatric survivors (consumer/survivors), and has five taskforces all with only token representation from consumer/survivors, none of whom were chosen by the state's consumer network but instead chosen by the Chair of the Commission, Richard Bonnie of the University of Virginia's Institute on Law and Psychiatry in consultation with the Chief Justice of our state Supreme Court.
The Commission has as its goal the deprivation of what little civil liberties consumer/survivors in this state have now, although of course that is not what is being stated in public.
What people outside of Virginia need to know is this is not just the usual attack on the right of people to be drug-free in their own homes, fighting so-called Kendra's Law. Nor is this just fighting for the right to be free of involuntary hospitalization, to prevent lowering the standard for commitment which is already so loose that only 9% of commitment hearings end in dismissal.
This is also an attack on:
- the very little confidentiality left in this state
- an attempt to get rid of independent evaluators in the commitment process
- an attempt to lengthen the initial detention stay
- an attempt to use conditional release (forced drugging) on civilly committed individuals for the first time legally in this state
- an attempt to have the state pay for attorneys to represent family members and other petitioners in commitment hearings, and
- an attempt to force people into coercive so-called voluntary hospitalization by threatening a longer stay if they do not "volunteer."
In fact, the chair of the Commission would like to have as few actual commitment hearings as possible and have most people "agree" to either outpatient commitment or inpatient stays before they ever have a hearing.
What happens in Virginia is being looked at by other states very closely. So please watch out for what is happening in your own state legislature and please send whatever good thoughts or prayers you can to consumer/survivors in Virginia in our fight to retain any of our civil liberties.
I want to especially thank Jim Gottstein of PsychRights for his generous and valuable assistance in our fight against these erosions of our civil rights over the last year.
Alison Hymes, from what we've gathered so far, was dragged out of her own home by State Police because her local Government decided that They were upset with Their tally of Alison's water Intake. Yes, Govt grabbed her because they were keeping Track of how much water she drank.
America, ....... Is This what you want?
It IS what you've Got, and you'd damn well better raise your voices in protest because if you Don't, it can happen to You.
And now, a word from our 1st President and Founding Dad:
lovely picture! I stole it...
ReplyDeleteGood! More people need to see it, and stop asking What can Government Steal from my neighbor to give it to me, ...... because it's my right to have free stuff.
ReplyDeleteRetch. Gag.
Hi D Bunker,
ReplyDeleteI have no doubts that Alison is a political prison.
What pisses me off is that the "activists" - Mindfreedom included - started a campaign in 2011 and... The End
I wrote at Mindfreedo's facebook and they don't want to talk about Alison.
Nobody wants to talk about her and two persons have even implied that Alison is not helping - she is not a "good girl".
I'm so appalled to what is being done to her - in the mental institution and her friends abandonment - that I gave up any action alert.
I believe you know Justina case and the amount of people working for it.
I bet that in three months they will say: "justina who?"
Very convenient that they are fighting for her exctly on he period Mindfreedom has their annual APA parade.
This is brutal.
Yes Ana;
ReplyDeleteJustina was all over the conservative talk radio stations. The hosts were outraged that it could happen in America. We wanted to call them and explain that this goes on everyday, everywhere in America at Psych facilities.
But it wouldn´t have done a bit of good because that would contradict their omniscience. None of them want their listeners to hear things the hosts don´t already know.
Now Justina is last week´s news after the BLM raIded the Bundy Ranch in Nevada.
Wow! It was at Conservative Radios?
ReplyDeleteAnd the hosts feared it could happen in America?
"No, it is an exception. Doctors make mistakes too. They are humans."
I bet that next month it will appear another casa to outrage the hosts.
Panis et cincensis...
I cannot stop thinking about Alison Hymes.
I think that they have already given so many drugs to her that she must be totally...
This is what makes me angry about the activists.
They just want to report the few cases they helped and succeed and write the same thing over and over.
Of course there are exceptions and numerous people really working hard.
But why Mindfreedom doesn't want to say what is happening to Alison is beyond me.
They know for there is a man who works at Mindfreedom that they claim he is a close friend.
I believe she was silenced. She was taking very seriously her work and... they don't want it.
I hope you're doing fine my friend.
I noticed that you've been publishing political posts. It is all about politics in the end.
These people are monsters.
Politics and Political Diseases.

Mental Disorders in America
"Mental disorders are common in the United States and internationally. An estimated 26.2 percent of Americans ages 18 and older — about one in four adults — suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year.1 When applied to the 2004 U.S. Census residential population estimate for ages 18 and older, this figure translates to 57.7 million people.2 Even though mental disorders are widespread in the population, the main burden of illness is concentrated in a much smaller proportion — about 6 percent, or 1 in 17 — who suffer from a serious mental illness.1 In addition, mental disorders are the leading cause of disability in the U.S. and Canada.3 Many people suffer from more than one mental disorder at a given time. Nearly half (45 percent) of those with any mental disorder meet criteria for 2 or more disorders, with severity strongly related to comorbidity.1
In the U.S., mental disorders are diagnosed based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition (DSM-IV).4"
This is the US Federal Dept of Political Diseases, the NIMH.
26.2% IN ANY GIVEN YEAR.
So if Everyone in America gets a 'Mental Health' checkup, in just 4 years, Everyone Except those applying for work as Police Officers (because they have to PASS as 'Mentally Healthy' in order to Get the job) become Incurably 'Mentally Ill'.
Then the Govt. through Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and his Eminence Emperor Obama will tell us All What to think and How to think, and which flavor of Psych Drug to Brain Damage ourselves with.
And all of our Police Officers will be Exempt, as agents of 'Change'.
You had better believe it's Political.
And We will be Damned if We can find Any mention or reference in the Enumerateed Powers Section of the US Constitution to it being the Federal Government's business to run a Federal Dept of Correct Thinking.
Best to you and yours Ana.
